rockin-tom's Mike
Caldwell Strat-style
Who is Mike Caldwell. If you are
from western Pennsylvania then I'm sure you know him since he
services and makes stringed instruments in that area. Mike grew
up one town over from rockin-tom and was chartered by rockin-tom
to build him a guitar back in the early '80s. This guitar looks
different today than it did when Nils Lofgren playe
d
it at the Decade in Oakland back in 1985. It was red with a
matching red headstock with MC painted onto it. Mike's
neck choice was Phil Kubicki and he shaped the body out of
a very nice piece of Alder. At the time the photo was taken, it
had Seymour Duncan pickups in it with red covers. Currently the
guitar, as illustrated to the far right, sports a natural finish
with an aftermarket Fender decal on the headstock. All of the
hardware has been changed from gold to chrome except for the
bridge houses brass saddles that give this instrument a little
bit of extra natural sustain. Currently the mint green pickguard
is populated with Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups and
it is wired with a five position pickup switch.
